Our client is looking for a Technical Editor to copy edit and format technical data sheets to company standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES: -Edit and quality check product-related documents using Word-based template. -Format and text edit in the Word data sheet template; learn data sheet standards to ensure those standards are consistently met. -Develop and maintain client relations skills to interact effectively with originators on a daily basis. -Convert PageMaker data sheets to Word and perform conversions of legacy data sheets. -Keep current with Word template changes and communicate and explain these changes to internal clients. -Help develop and manage standardized guidelines for style and terminology usage. -May be called upon to proofread and edit other materials (including collateral pieces such as brochures, manuals, ads, product highlights).

Our R&D customer in Lexington has a long-term contract opening for an Editor to work as part of a technical communications team. Applicants MUST be US citizens and be eligible to pass a Background Investigation and Credit Check to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
Summary: Check the accuracy, grammatical correctness, and consistency of the various documents and visual materials produced in Technical Communications and/or provided by authors. These materials cover a broad spectrum of items including report art, brochures, workshop packets, procedures, and a variety of visual displays. It requires coordinating and collaborating with authors and artists.
Secondary responsibilities: -Create original content aimed at a broader and less technically sophisticated readership by independently interviewing staff and often analyzing and interpret their responses to produce elegant and understandable journalistic reporting. -Write copy and technical instructional materials for unique and focused audiences. Strategize and organize content to create maximum impact with an overwhelming amount of information, usable for web or email based distribution. -Repurpose existing content for print and/or electronic distribution. -Edit and proofread high-level conference materials, posters, technical reports, project reports, and special reports and personal biographies for content and style and applying internal formatting standards to same. -Edit, format, and create from customer-supplied markup presenters and attendee packages for workshops, and information packages for workshops. -Review and revise documents, write document abstracts or summaries, newsletters, annual reports, and other organizational publications. -Ensure distribution statements and markings are accurate and appropriate. -Conduct workshops to improve the writing, reporting and presentation skills of staff.
Requirements: -Advanced degree in English, communications, public policy, or another field with a strong communications component. -A minimum of 5 years of editing experience Exceptional customer service, project management, and multitasking skills -Ability to work well under pressure and communicate effectively with all levels of personnel in a manner conducive to providing top-notch Customer Service. -Excellent knowledge of grammar and spelling Experience utilizing Macintosh and/or Windows PCs, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and/or other word-processing software. -Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and MathType equation editor will set candidate apart from other applicants.

The data sheets range from 12 to 85 pages and have some marketing focus, as often they represent the sole technical material available to prospective buyers. The tracking process to create, review and produce these materials requires strong attention to detail.
Along with excellent project management skills, candidate must have great attention to detail, be a self-starter, and possess good interpersonal skills.
