Summary:
Will design and develop mechanical units
and systems from rough sketches and/or
verbal instructions from engineering staff.
Will perform basic design calculations,
prepare design concepts, layouts, and
finished manufacturing drawings specifying
dimensional tolerances, surface finishes,
and materials.
Experience/Skills Needed:
-Candidate needs to be familiar with
optical ray tracing and optical elements
including lens assemblies, beam splitters
and optical fibers; ideal candidate should
also be familiar with optical mounting,
adjustment & actuating systems, alignment &
measurement techniques, mechanical ground
support equipment for environmental testing
and manufacturing jigs & fixtures.
-Minimum of ten years experience in design,
including a minimum of six years on CAD
(Computer Aided Design) systems.
-Must have extensive knowledge of
materials, manufacturing techniques, and
military standards.
-Must have broad experience and knowledge
with actuating mechanisms, precision
gearing, sheet metal alloy fabricating
design techniques (welding, dip brazing,
oven brazing, and soldering), heat
treatment processes, painting and plating
finishing processes.
-Familiarity with ASME standards and
established practices in aircraft, missile,
spacecraft and ground support equipment.
-Should be capable of developing own
concepts, design layouts, and basic
calculations to support design concepts.
